Men Who Wear Nail Polish, Gender Roles, and Beauty

Interesting thing to see, how people will or won't react to seeing me wearing nail polish. Sometimes the person you most suspect will give you grief about it is the person who will look stunned and tell you to your face that it is "So freaking awesome, man."

I've always thought that a man wearing some nail polish, even if only black or clear coat, was really attractive. It speaks volumes about his level of comfort with himself, and I think it's even cooler when it's a straight guy wearing it. I love seeing people bend the gender rules.

And it can make a very positive statement to other people, without you ever having to open your mouth and utter a single word. I've had young gay men and older gay men tell me that it makes them feel better, safer to see people like me who are so "out". I think it's a critical thing to banish any internalized homophobia or inner fear of appearing a bit different that perfectly masculine. I've personally been more attracted to guys who lie somewhere near the middle to female side of traditional gender roles. I want people in my life- and in my bed- who are creative, passionate, outgoing, and not afraid to be themselves.

Women are hot. Putting a lady in trousers or a suit does not change the hotness, it merely adds another layer of interest and nuance. Men are studs. Some guyliner or nail polish does not diminish that, it sets it off by providing a unique compliment or contrast to the overall individual. If someone is willing to mix and match the gender roles, they're probably willing and able to do a lot of things that the Great Vanilla Masses are unable to even imagine, and that is so damn sexy in my book.
